For early stage companies, the positives of a couple of recent surveys from Tomasz Tunguz at Redpoint Ventures and Alyssa Spagnolo at OMERS Ventures are that funding is continuing there is generally an increasing willingness to make funding decisions remotely. The catch? Lower total dollars invested, fewer companies receiving financing, and the funds that are getting invested are largely follow-ons and/or known quantities in terms of companies, founders and prior investors. Overall, there has been a flight to safety and proven traction – especially for a remote deal – is more important than ever. Strong numbers are worth a thousand words.
